As some of the Webelo Scouts of Pack 880 out of LaPorte Indiana prepare to cross over into Scouts BSA they finished up one of their adventures at Apex Filling Systems. Cub Scout adventures were designed to focus on growing character development, participatory citizenship, personal fitness, outdoor skills and awareness. Once a Cub Scout has completed the six core adventures and one of his or his den’s choosing he will have earned his badge of rank. In addition to the adventures required for rank advancement, there are also additional elective adventures that members of the den may earn.
The elective adventure that Pack 880’s scouts chose was Build It. The Build It adventure teaches the scouts about using tools, making a plan to construct a project and visit a construction site. In place of a traditional construction site, the scouts decided to visit Apex Filling Systems to learn about how packaging machines are designed, constructed and tested. They watched some of the Apex staff demonstrate the operation of a spindle capping machine and an overflow filling machine. They had loads of questions about the applications and what these machines can do. Exposing the scouts to different positive experiences encourages their creativity. Ultimately, it also opens their minds to what their future could be like if they apply themselves.
Apex was very proud to host the group and participate in their personal growth as well as the scouting program!
